The United States and China discussed a possible meeting between Presidents Xi Jinping and Joe Biden this weekend. This was stated by White House advisor Jake Sullivan after a marathon meeting with the Chinese Foreign Minister.

White House Counsel Jake Sullivan and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke for twelve hours in Malta this weekend.

During the discussions, the US Chancellor expressed concerns about China’s assistance to Russia and Chinese activity in the Taiwan Strait. The United States sees “limited” signs that China is willing to engage in military discussions.

Meeting in November

A possible meeting between Presidents Xi Jinping and Joe Biden was also discussed. This could happen in November at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting in San Francisco.

The Chinese Foreign Minister is expected to arrive in Moscow next week, where he will hold talks with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov.
