The High Representative for European Foreign Policy, Joseph Borrell, invited the United States to a meeting between the P5 + 1 and Iran. This group includes the United States, Germany, China, France, the United Kingdom and Russia. A US State Department spokesman said Borrell wanted the meeting “to find the best way to move forward with the nuclear deal.”
The P5 + 1 and Iran reached an agreement on Iran’s nuclear capability in 2015. Trump has always been a great lover of that deal, and in 2018, the United States unilaterally exited the deal.
At the same time, Washington appears to have launched a magic attack to bring Iran to the negotiating table. In addition to announcing the United States’ willingness to accept the European invitation, it was also announced Thursday that a letter sent to the UN Security Council in September would be canceled. In that letter, the Security Council was informed that international sanctions were being imposed again on Iran for failing to fulfill its side of the deal. The other parties to the nuclear deal already declared in September that the letter was without objection, as Washington was no longer part of the agreement. In addition, restrictions imposed on Iranian diplomats at the United Nations in New York have been eased. Trump imposed tougher restrictions on Iranian diplomats.
