In The Witches, a young orphan goes to live with his dear grandmother in Alabama in 1967. Since they still clash with witches – the chic look – the grandmother decides that vacationing on the coast is a better environment. Unfortunately, they choose a place where the witch’s meeting just takes place and find out that the main witch has very nasty plans.
Based on Roald Dahl’s 1983 book, also previously designed for The Witches (1990), both set in the UK, this movie has been modified in the US state of Alabama. With the exception of some outdoor shots in Alabama, most of the footage was shot in the UK.

The previous version of The Witches (1990) was directed by lead director Nicholas Rogge. The director of this film, Robert Zemeckis, has a long record of family films such as Back to the Future (1985), who framed Roger Rabbit (1988) and Forrest Gump (1994), which are films with many special effects. In this film, the director collaborated with fictional directors Guillermo del Toro (screenplay and production, The Shape of Water (2017)) and Alfonso Cuarón (Production, Rome (2018)).
Anne Hathaway is best known for Dark Waters (2019), Interstellar (2014), Alice in Wonderland (2010), and The Devil Wears Prada (2006). In the latter movie she co-starred with Stanley Tucci, also known from A Private War (2018), The Hunger Games (2012) and The Lovely Bones (2009).
Octavia Spencer is bekend van The Shape of Water (2017), Fruitvale Station (2013) and The Help (2011).
Jahzir Bruno previously made public appearances in the TV series “The Oath” (2019) and “Atlanta” (2018).
