Both the European Commission and the United States are following in the British footsteps by imposing similar sanctions. Western governments are increasingly concerned about the app’s security and issues surrounding TikTok parent company ByteDance Ltd.

Flanders

The US Congress already banned TikTok last year and the European Commission has ordered its staff to remove the app from all government devices by March 15. Flanders has also implemented measures. Officials said it is important for all government employees to be aware of the dangers of using the app. The Flemish interior minister is calling on local authorities to do the same and ban TikTok on their employees’ work phones. Recently, the Belgian Minister of Justice issued a similar appeal to national government employees.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s office declined to comment on the matter, which was reported earlier Times of London.
