At least 300 people have already had to leave their homes after a volcanic eruption on the Spanish Canary island of La Palma. This was reported by local media.

The explosion occurred in an uninhabited area of the island, but people already had to leave their homes. It is not clear in which direction the lava will flow and fires have already been reported in populated areas. A large ash cloud can be seen over the island.
Thousands of seismic shocks have been recorded in recent days. In addition, the Earth appeared in places, indicating that magma was accumulating under the Cumbre Vieja volcano cluster. According to RTVE TV, there are at least four places where ash, smoke and lava come from.
The authorities had already called on people in the vicinity of the volcanic area to prepare a suitcase in case of evacuation.
La Palma’s last eruption was in October 1971, when Teneguía volcano spewed lava for three weeks.
Unlike Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, and Tenerife, La Palma is not a popular tourist destination in the Canary Islands.
