Every week the Belgian Video Games Federation (VGFB) brings us a list of the top 5 best-selling games in Belgium.
In Week 41 of 2023, newcomer EA Sports FC 24 takes first place. According to EA, the new soccer game had a better launch than FIFA 23, with 20% of the player population being completely new, so they don’t have a saved game from a previous FIFA game. EA Sports FC 24 marks the beginning of a new chapter for Electronic Arts after separating from FIFA. EA Sports FC features over 30 leagues, over 700 teams, and over 19,000 licensed footballers. Realism and physics just got better this year with HypermotionV, which uses data from over 180 footballers
In second place this week is Assassin’s Creed Mirage. A prequel to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which revolves around an assassin named Basim. He did not grow up as a killer, but rather a thief on the streets of Baghdad. It gave Bassem the chance to use his skills for good and take on the evil Templars who want to rule the world. With Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Ubisoft returns to the series’ roots with an emphasis on stealth, objectives, and hidden code. No RPG elements from modern games can be found here.
In third place is the new Soulslike Lords of the Fallen, a reboot of the series but also a sequel set 1,000 years after the events of the first game. Lords of the Fallen is very much inspired by Dark Souls, but there’s one big twist. The events of this game take place in two worlds, the world of the living and the world of the dead. Using your flashlight, you can enter the world of the dead, as a kind of portal, but be careful, the monsters can see you too.
This week’s fourth best-selling game is actually GTA V, a game that is now 10 years old. GTA V is the most successful premium entertainment product of all time with 185 million copies currently sold. GTA V continues to sell like hotcakes 10 years after its release. It has sold 5 million copies in the past three months, which is as good as a new Triple A hit.
The Crew Motorfest, the new racing game from Ubisoft, took fifth place as the best-selling game last week in Belgium. This is an open world racing game where you can race on the roads with cars, in the air with planes, and at sea with boats. The world of The Crew Motorfest is located in Hawaii. There is support for official racing wheels for added immersion while racing.
