Today, our British colleagues on WhatsOnStage posted a wish list of 14 Broadway musicals that they would definitely like to see coming to the UK. Remarkably, this list includes four musicals that we have already seen in the Netherlands, or that have already been announced: AnastasiaAnd the The promAnd the Beside normal at the little Mermaid. Nonetheless, it did inspire us to come up with a wish-list, despite our humility we keep it in five existing musicals never played in the Netherlands and four revivals. Like our British colleagues, we also like Dave Malloy’s masterpiece Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 In the Netherlands. This musical is based on one chapter by Leo Tolstoy war and peace (To the experts: Where Natasha has an affair with Anatole and Pierre searches for the purpose of his life) They are both in an intimate setting off Broadway and the Imperial Theater on Broadway, with star actors including Josh Groban. We’ve seen this musical on Broadway (review), but if grand design for this production is not possible in the Netherlands we might be satisfied with a more intimate performance, for example at Het Zonnehuis in Amsterdam, with cabaret-style seats.
The production of our following wishes can only be programmed in circus theater; Hunchback of Notre Dame. Such as Les Miserables Based on a novel by Victor Hugo, and a gentle tribute to the famous cathedral fire two years ago. Plus, it’s a shame that the witty (and only) collaboration between Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz has never been shown in Europe, except for an early version showing 20 years ago in Berlin.

In the revival category there are a number of titles that, in our opinion, can be reprogrammed. The production that many of us have been waiting for is Phantom of the Opera. Twenty-five years after the last show in the circus theater, it would be a good advertisement if the reopening of theaters was celebrated with this great musical. How cool would it be if we could get Cielind Schönmaker back to the Netherlands for this?
A second revival of fears West Side Story, Which, with the exception of the two Jubilee concerts at Concertgebouw in 2013, has not been seen (professionally) in the Netherlands for 25 years.
We wouldn’t call a third production a revival; Producers He only made a few shows after the premiere, after which the curtain fell and the producer went bankrupt. However, this was a great performance, which has to be performed by the same actors all over Holland.
