Will Prince Harry get police protection in the UK again soon? Surprisingly, many Britons support that monarchy

RoyalWill we soon see Prince Harry (38 years old) and his wife Meghan Markle (41 years old) on the side of the police permanently? If it was up to the British, yes. The majority of people in the UK agree that the Duke of Sussex should be protected. Although some also believe that he must pay for it himself. This was according to a YouGov survey.

More than half of the UK population believes that Prince Harry should receive state protection. But not everyone agreed: 37% think they should pay for police protection themselves. More than a quarter of the public (28%) believe they do not deserve police protection at all.

The Duke of Sussex launched a legal battle in 2021 after his right of custody was revoked. He lost his police protection when he and his wife, Meghan, stepped down as working members of the British royal family in 2020. Without the security, the prince and his family, who live in California, feel unsafe in the UK. Harry believes his family needs round-the-clock protection, even when royal security is present at official events. Keepers are always present at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor. Prince Harry’s lawsuit against the Home Office over police security has already cost the British state nearly £300,000. This is evident from the numbers obtained through the Freedom of Information Act.

“arrogant and irrational”

John O’Connor, the former chief of Scotland Yard (London Police Headquarters, ed.), is dissatisfied with the case. “Expecting protection from the state is arrogant and irrational,” he told The Sun. “It is the result of vanity. He only wants protection because he thinks he is seen as less important without protection.”
