Women’s World Cup | Orange Lionesses preliminary selection announced – Kika van Es and Shanice van de Sanden among the 30 names

In the World Championship, which is held from July 20 to August 20 and receives 32 participating countries for the first time, the Orange Lionesses are in Group Five with Portugal, the United States and Vietnam.

The top two teams from each group advance to the knockout stage of the tournament, with the eight finals being played first. The Dutch women play all their group matches in New Zealand.

The last Women’s World Cup was held in France in 2019. The Orange Lionesses reached the final then, where the USA eventually came out strong 2-0 thanks to goals from Megan Rapinoe and Rosemary Lavelle.

To practice

As expected, Viviane Miedema is not among the 30 names of national coach Juncker. The first striker is still recovering from a serious knee injury and hopes to participate at the beginning of next season. Juncker indicated at an earlier stage that the all-time top scorer should focus first on his recovery at the present time.

Are you at the party? The names of top players such as Shereda Spitze, Danielle van de Donk, Stephanie van der Gragt, Jackie Groenen, Dominik Janssen, Lieke Martens and Jill Roord appear in the list of shortlisted candidates.

There are also two notable names among the thirty; Both Kika van Es, who last played at international level last November and will soon end her career, and Shanice van der Sanden – who last competed in the Orange in 2021 – will get a chance from Juncker.
