The character is played by two different actors in Harry PotterGriphook is an elf in the Harry Potter film series. We first see him in the first film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The role of Griphook in this film is played by Verne Troyer, but the voice you hear belongs to Warwick Davis.
From small role to big role
Troyer, known as Mini-Me in Austin PowersMovies, only briefly seen as Griphook in the first film. Harry PotterThe movie, because Griphook only plays a small role in the beginning of Harry’s adventures.
But his role was expanded in Deathly Hallows and because only UK actors were allowed to play the lead roles in the films, Davies was allowed to fully take on the role of Griphook, both physically and vocally. Troyer was American and therefore was not allowed to continue playing the role, although he did a good job.
Not much impact
Since Griphook only had a small role at the beginning of the film series, the casting change didn’t have a huge impact. Many people probably didn’t even notice. Griphook isn’t Davis’ only role in Harry PotterMovies played. He also appeared as Professor Filius Flitwick.
First time we see Griphook Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone This occurs when he is called to accompany Harry and Hagrid to the Underground Railroad system to Harry’s cellar and then to Cellar 713 to retrieve the Philosopher’s Stone. This is the only time we see him in the film.
Deathly Hallows
We won’t be able to see Griphook again until Deathly Hallows He plays a larger role in Harry’s adventures. He is captured by the Snatchers along with Harry, Ron, and Hermione. When Hermione lies under torture to Bellatrix Lestrange that the Sword of Gryffindor is a fake, Bellatrix asks Griphook to confirm, which she gets. He, Harry, Ron, and Hermione are rescued by Dobby and successfully escape.
As Harry needs to retrieve the Horcrux from Bellatrix’s vault, Griphook reluctantly agrees to help them break into Gringotts in exchange for the Sword of Gryffindor. However, upon escaping, Griphook betrays them to the other goblins and flees with the sword. Griphook eventually dies in the aftermath at Gringotts and the Sword of Gryffindor disappears before Voldemort can see it. Despite Griphook’s claim that the sword belongs to the goblins, the sword reappears when Neville Longbottom pulls it from the Sorting Hat and uses it to behead Nagini.
