Elden Ring director says he’s bad at gaming

Hidetaka Miyazaki makes great games, but they are all challenging. If you don’t put the time and effort into achieving success and learning from your mistakes, you will continue to fail or quit playing a software game altogether.

Interestingly, Miyazaki himself says he is not very good at playing video games. The famous game director says he plays his own games after they appear in stores. Miyazaki is not very good, but he has managed to progress using everything he has at his disposal. Miyazaki stated this in an interview with Watchman.

“Before the game comes out, I’m very practical and play it as much as possible,” Miyazaki said in an interview with The Guardian ahead of the release of Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC on June 21. “But after it comes out, I tend not to touch on it anymore, because I know I’ll either find things I missed or problems that will annoy me.”

“I want to say up front that I don’t exactly like video games, so my approach or my style of play was to use everything I had at my disposal, all the help, every bit of help that the game provides, and also all the knowledge that I have as the game’s architect,” Miyazaki said. “Perhaps the freedom and open-world nature of Elden Ring lowered the barrier, and I’m probably the person who benefits from that as a player more than anyone else.”

Miyazaki has previously noted that Elden Ring is easier than other From Software games because you’re not forced to follow a specific path. If you encounter something difficult, you can go to another area in the open world and come back later when you’ve acquired new skills and better equipment.
