Afghans want to escape: US forces fire shots to calm airport chaos

• Afghanistan is almost completely under Taliban control. The seizure of power puts an end to 20 years of fragile “democracy” under American supervision.

• Thousands of Afghans affiliated with the West are trying to find another flight abroad at Kabul airport. US forces checked the airport and fired shots to calm the chaos.

• President Ashraf Ghani fled the country. The presidential palace is owned by the Taliban.

• The seizure comes after President Joe Biden decided to withdraw his American forces from the country. Soon the NATO allies followed suit and returned home en masse. The power vacuum led to a rapid advance of the Taliban.
