Telegram is often compared to WhatsApp, but this is actually unjustified. Androidworld reader Tom is a Telegram expert and occasionally explains why Telegram is useful. This time it is the turn of the useful bots in Telegram.
Telegram in bots
at my previous article Have you learned how to create a channel to inform those at home while on vacation? You may now also have created playlist channels and uploaded your music because Telegram also has a great music player. Telegram is full of innovative options that few people manage to find. That’s why I recently found “Telegram Features” at the bottom of the side menu, a channel full of tips. This time I will tell you more about bots and how to use them. You can roughly divide bots into three types: embedded bots and user bots.
Bots are automated users to whom you can send individual messages and get something in return. For example, botIFTTT may ask you to send all RSS feeds from a website to your channel. GmailBot retrieves your Gmail so you can read emails without the Gmail app and with myNSbot you’ll never be on the wrong platform again. In most bots you can find search commands via /help, but more and more bots have a good menu. However, the development of bots is still in its infancy and depends on third parties, and Telegram offers only the possibility and few examples.
Embedded bots are bots that the average user uses the most. Imagine you’re chatting with a friend to go to the movies and wondering if Blackbird would be a good movie. Start a message with imdb blackbird, choose the appropriate Blackbird movie and you will have all the information in the chat at your fingertips. Some bots may require you to log into their app or, for example, ask foursquare your location to view a restaurant near you. Also try wikigifbingvidmusicfoursquareyoutube.
I can be brief about Userbots, don’t use them unless you make them yourself. This type of bot can do everything you can do on your own but you don’t know the purpose of the creator so your data is not safe. Programmers use this type of bot, for example, to filter messages with # so that they don’t have to read hundreds of messages. A user bot can also monitor language usage in a group, which is useful, but unfortunately criminals can also program.
The bot is now updated and developers can start with the payment options in Telegram. TestStore and shopbot are two examples of this. So bots are good tools for group and channel managers.
Do you want to play with making a robot by yourself? So BotFather is the place to start and GitHub has open source samples that you can use. On Telegram site Everything is described in detail.
