The MT Mondial member directs the task of managing international affairs. The focus is on global public health issues and bilateral cooperation with other countries. More than ever, the COVID-19 crisis has made clear the impact of international developments on the public health situation in the Netherlands. But also what important role can the Netherlands play in promoting global public health. Tasks such as developing a global pandemic preparedness treaty and the global health strategy that this government wants to achieve are examples of the major issues at hand.
Roland Driece, Director of International Affairs: Andrea is a very experienced international director. Given her busy international public health agenda, I am very pleased that she has joined us.
Andrea Connell: “The pandemic has shown us both the strong and the weak sides of national policies and the global health system. I very much look forward to contributing to the improvement of the complex and dynamic policy areas of the department, both in the Netherlands and abroad, with enthusiastic VWS colleagues through international collaboration. Andrea has been Head of International Affairs at the SAI since 2015. She started her career with local authorities in the UK. In 1995 she moved to the Netherlands and the International Union of Local Authorities (IULA). Since then, she has held various international leadership and policy positions. Andrea is a polyglot, holds a Masters in Public Administration (NSOB) and European Studies (Europa College Bruges and Warsaw) and studied Modern Languages (German and French) at Oxford University.
This appointment to the position of ABD is determined by the general procedure for positions within the General Administrative Services category.
