At least 26 killed in severe monsoon rains in Mumbai | science and planet

Monsoon rains have killed 26 people in the Indian city of Mumbai. Indian authorities reported this.

The victims fell when a number of houses collapsed in Chambor and Vikroli as a result of landslides caused by heavy rains. Eleven others were injured and taken to hospital. Emergency services fear that more victims are under the rubble.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolences and announced financial compensation for the injured and relatives of the deceased. Many areas of the city are under water and rail traffic has been disrupted, which has largely paralyzed life in India’s financial capital.

Meteorological services also expect heavy rains in the next five days.
