British government: hiring Britons against the lack of drivers

In the UK, the necessary problems are due to a shortage of drivers. As a result, not all goods can be transported across the country, and supermarkets, for example, do not receive all products. There are now empty shelves in supermarkets and production companies are also struggling to get their raw materials. Stores are also warning of shortages in the coming months and are calling for Christmas purchases to be distributed over the coming months.

By the way, this lack of drivers is nothing new. Companies have been struggling with this for several years, but Brexit has caused many European drivers to leave the country and the problems in the UK have worsened. Moreover, this profession has been aging for years, because younger drivers partly began to do other work. In the UK, more drivers are now retiring each month than are being added.

Transporting organizations have called on the government to temporarily relax visa rules for truck drivers. The British newspaper The Times also wrote this weekend that the government is ready, but the ministry’s call points in the opposite direction.
