Lieven Vandersijpen will receive a Spinoza prize of €2.5 million for his work in quantum technology.
Professor Dr. Doctor. Infrared. Vandersijpen (1972) is the Anthony van Leeuwenhoek Professor of Quantum Nanoscience at TU Delft.
The NWO awarded him the award for being a “world-renowned pioneer” in the field of quantum computing.

Quantum computers work very differently from “normal” computers. Quantum computers work with particles, quantum bits, or qubits, which can be not just 1 or zero, but can contain many “states”. For example, quantum computers are theoretically capable of performing strange amounts of calculations simultaneously.
