Chromecast with Google TV: First update of 2024
Good news for Chromecast with Google TV users. The search giant wrote that it has released the first update of 2024 for the media player 9to5Google. This is an update with build number STTL.231114.004, which you can now download and install. The update is 148MB in size and is only available for Chromecast with Google TV (4K).
Your Chromecast with Google TV (HD) will have to wait a while for the update. Unfortunately, the latest software doesn’t have any new features, but it does include the December 2023 Android security patch. This means Chromecast security is only as good as the update. Installing updates is very simple; Simply follow the step-by-step plan below.
- On your Chromecast with Google TV, go to your profile picture in the top right and choose Settings;
- Go to “System > About > System Update”;
- Your Chromecast will now check for updates;
- Download and install the latest version.
As mentioned earlier, there are no exciting features added to Chromecast with Google TV. The update only contains some bug fixes and performance improvements, which should make the device perform a little better. Google often releases these types of updates for Chromecast.
The media player is still running Android 12 and will get new functions soon. Google recently announced that TikTok is coming to Chromecast and it will be easier to connect Bluetooth devices to the HDMI adapter.

In the Netherlands, you can choose from two Chromecast devices with Google TV. The big difference is in image quality. The more expensive version, which costs €70, can display movies and series in 4K quality on your TV. Chromecast with Google TV (HD) has been available since 2022 and costs €40.
