Unlimited borrowing
Customers of Decathlon stores in Antwerp and Alior (near Liège) can now borrow an unlimited number of equipment and clothing for all sports with a monthly subscription. Subscribers can use items as long as they want and exchange them for other products at any time. Decathlon teams repair the returned items and put them back in their proper place for next use. Safety products and consumables are not included in the range.
With the “We Play Circular” subscription formula, Decathlon focuses primarily on families with children who need sports equipment for their weekly hobbies or who want to discover new sports on the weekend or on holidays. The subscription is also suitable for regular athletes who need equipment and clothing to practice or learn different sports.
Three formulas
This is the first of its kind in Europe, although the retailer has already tested the concept with seventy customers in 2021. The offer is currently limited to a thousand subscribers. There will be 150 registrations available when registrations open and capacity will be increased each month. Decathlon is doing this to explore the new model and study the possibility of further expansion.
There are three subscription formulas: for €25 per month, customers can borrow products with a total new value of up to €400, for €50 per month, a maximum new value of €1,000, and for €95 per month, up to €2,000. euro.
