The North Korean, who returned home after a year in South Korea on Saturday, had a tough time in South Korea. After crossing the heavily guarded border into South Korea in November 2020, he began working as a janitor. But local media reported that he is complaining about his new life due to economic difficulties.

A source in South Korea’s Unification Ministry told South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency that the man was receiving government aid, including housing and medical treatment. The South Korean military was told that the North Korean was seen as a lower class person and barely made a living from his job.
Several border crossings have recently led to criticism of the army. Surveillance photos from the South Korean side showed the man crossing the border again, but the guards did not notice anything. More than three hours later, the military noticed a person in the demilitarized zone, but by that time it was too late to capture the person.
