The west coast of Canada is exposed to a severe heat wave. The extraordinary weather phenomenon has broken at least 103 heat records. Axel Merckx lives in Kelowna, a city in British Columbia: “The heat record has already been broken twice in recent days.” Magali lives further west in Vancouver, where temperatures get a little warmer. But there was also everything on board: “We quickly bought a fan, because it sold out everywhere. Now people are selling it online for hundreds of dollars.” Canadian emergency services are full of people in heat. It mainly concerns the elderly. British Columbia has already reported 103 more deaths than usual during that period. This causes a lot of concern in the country. Fortunately, the thermal dome is slowly moving towards the east. Temperatures on the West Coast could start dropping again.
