Free PC Games from the Epic Store

Epic is about to update the free PC games on the Epic Games Store.

As part of Epic’s effort to get rid of Steam, the company offers a selection of free PC games every week.

Previous free games have included Grand Theft Auto 5, Borderlands, Civilization 6, and Star Wars Battlefront 2.

The current free games include two excellent retro versions such as Sonic Mania and Horizon Chase Turbo.

Unfortunately, Sonic Mania and Horizon Chase Turbo won’t be available for download until July 1, 4PM PT.

Existing freebies will be replaced by The Spectrum Retreat first-person puzzle game.

You can download The Spectrum Retreat from July 1 to July 8 at 4pm UK time, after which a new game will be added to the lineup.

Spectrum Retreat contains a collection of color-coded puzzles set in the rooms of a mysterious hotel.

The official description reads: “The Spectrum Retreat is a challenging first-person puzzle game set in the near future.”

“You wake up in The Penrose, a quiet and unsettling escape from the outside world. As a cherished guest, your presence is an integral part of the corridors and rooms of the Penrose Hotel.

“Exploring this beautiful Art Deco hotel will reveal to you the mysteries of both The Penrose and the uncertainties surrounding your current home. Your desire to discover the truth is hindered by a series of colour-coded mysteries, staggering physical challenges, and a growing fear of revealing your true intentions.”

Arguably the best game in this week’s collection is Sonic Mania, which brings a modern twist to the classic.

“The ultimate celebration of the past and the future. An all-new adventure filled with unique bosses, 2D landscapes, and fun classic games. Sonic Mania brings a fast-paced platformer into the future with pixel-perfect 2D graphics at 60 frames per second.”

Finally, Horizon Chase Turbo is a racing game inspired by classics like Out Run from SEGA.

It simulates the classic arcade game and gives you unlimited speed limits for fun. Horizon Chase Turbo offers a nostalgic split multiplayer mode to play all night on the couch with your best friends.

Horizon Chase Turbo Inspired by the past without leaving the present, the apparent polygon shape and secondary color aesthetic create a unique atmosphere.

“In the Horizon Chase Turbo, you drive through unusual places, watch the sunset, deal with rain, snow, volcanic ash and even severe sandstorms.”
