Good to know: These 5 things will make you fart

Everyone overindulges now and then, but it’s still a taboo. When someone blows wind in public, they get a very weird look or a chuckle. Especially if the scent doesn’t smell very fresh, it’s embarrassing. However, everyone doing it and trying to keep it will only lead to stomach pain or bloating. Curious what causes those gases? A bowl of yoghurt with fruit before you start the day is delicious. But as we get older, we earn less and less From the enzyme that helps us digest it. That’s why you often get windy afterwards. There are also people with lactose intolerance: the milk sugar (lactose) from milk is not broken down and absorbed in the small intestine. Then the milk sugar enters the large intestine unchanged and is fermented there. The result: flatulence.

Some (slow) carbohydrates from legumes, grains, vegetables, and fruits are not completely digested by enzymes in the small intestine. The semi-digested carbohydrates then end up in the large intestine where they are processed by the intestinal flora, causing gas and thus fart.

Soda and chewing gum

When you eat gum, you not only inhale extra air, but it also contains artificial sweeteners, such as xylitol and sorbitol. Some people are very sensitive to this and chewing gum stimulates the production of saliva in your mouth. This activates the digestive system and prepares the intestines for food that appears to be coming in. Your bowels start to move, but nothing comes and this causes – you guessed it – flatulence.

Lots of cruciferous vegetables

Cruciferous vegetables are very healthy, and we all know that. And especially in winter, these vegetables are very tasty: broccoli, white cabbage, Chinese cabbage, turnip, cabbage, pointed cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and so on. There is only one drawback, unfortunately they are also the causes of notorious odors. Maybe you should take that for granted.

You don’t do it consciously, but when you talk while eating or chew a drop or gum during a conversation, you swallow air. You also do this if you drink through a straw. Of course, this excess air must also be expelled and this can be done in two ways: by cultivators or by winds. So when you eat, try to eat with your mouth closed and wait for your story to swallow your bite.
