Hogwarts Legacy surpasses 22 million sales

Hogwarts Legacy seems to be flying off the shelves in an almost magical way: the action RPG set in the Harry Potter universe has already been sold more than 22 million times.

The game did so through sales on multiple platforms. Hogwarts Legacy was first released throughout 2023 on PC, Playstation 5, and Xbox Series. Exactly how many Switch copies of Hogwarts Legacy have been sold has not been announced. However, the game has remained on the eShop bestseller lists almost continuously since its release on Switch.

With sales of 22 million, Hogwarts Legacy falls somewhere between Nintendo titles like Pokémon Scarlet & Violet and Super Mario Party.

David Haddad, director of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment had this to say about the success of Hogwarts Legacy (translated):

But it’s not just the number of copies sold that I’m very proud of, it’s especially the fact that the fans have been very happy with it. It brought Harry Potter to life in a new way for players where they could be themselves in this world, in this story. This is what the Avalanche team wanted to do when they developed the game and I think this is the real reason why it took off so well and remains the best-selling game of the year worldwide. This is a position typically held by sequels to established series, and we’re very proud to have been able to break into the upper ranks.
