PFAS: “Many municipalities in Flanders have complaints about Flemish government communications as a result of the investigation into the PFAS.” This is what Mayor Alan Yzermans (Forwright) said after questioning by Opposition Council member Martin Hoppen (Bauer).
“How is it possible that the barracks area in question wasn’t a bottleneck area in a few weeks, and now it suddenly became so,” Houben wondered loudly and immediately wanted to know the situation. “At the end of March, OVAM published a map of the fire brigade areas on the Flanders website,” Mayor Yzermans said in response. At the time of publication, the board itself was not aware of potential contamination on the sites. The letter we received refers to a letter from the Health Care Agency dated June 2021. But we have not received anything from it. Then we contacted our neighboring municipalities. It turns out they didn’t get it either. Contact with the Association of Flemish Towns and Municipalities (VVSG) shows that many cities have complaints about communications to higher authorities. Anyway, we certainly don’t have a single red area – where PFAS contamination has been identified – but only the yellow areas. We want to err on the side of caution and therefore advise residents in the vicinity of potentially contaminated places not to eat eggs from chickens or vegetables from our garden.”
the garden: The probationary period for organizing private and commercial parties at the Het Park Convention Center East will be extended for one year. The period has been introduced to check whether the parties can be organized under the direction of the incumbent director without any inconvenience, which was the case in the past.
Gas fines: Chancellor Stijn Van Dingenen (Buur) indicated that GAS fines for illegal dumping in Houthalen-Helchteren are sent from the city of Genk. According to Mayor Yzermans (Forwitt), this is because the report was passed to the authorized Genk Sanctions Officer.
