‘I didn’t steal anything from the state’: Lukashenko responds to an exhibition video about luxury living | abroad

BelarusA video claiming that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko spent hundreds of millions of dollars on luxury homes and cars, among other things, was viewed more than three million times in a short time. Opposition news channel Nexta posted the film on YouTube on Monday.

It is said in Lukashenko’s Gold Mine, among other things, that the president’s palace cost the state more than 210 million euros. Lukashenko, who calls himself the “People’s President”, is said to own 17 more homes.

Journalists in the film say that Lukashenko bought expensive cars, including Rolls-Royce and Maybach. He himself said earlier that the cars were gifts from businessmen.

Belarusian authorities have not commented on the film, but the president said last week that his opponents would work on a fake story to destabilize the country. He said: “I did not steal anything from the state, I did not take anything.”

A new wave of protests

The release comes as the opposition prepares for another wave of protests against Lukashenko’s re-election last August. According to them, it is clear that fraud was carried out during the poll. Mass protests erupted against the election results last year.

The video reminds us of the video of Russian opposition leader Navalny about “Putin’s greatest secret, the most expensive palace in the world”. Putin later denied that the palace in question was his property.
