Westerlo – The football match between KVC Westerlo and Sporting Charleroi on Friday 1 March is once again dedicated to Planet Goudgeel Hospital, the new children's hospital in Geel.

Whether in the stadium or in the VIP lounges, everything has been done to attract more attention to the project. And with success, because the evening raised a total amount of 23,879 euros. This entire amount will be used to furnish and furnish the new pediatric department at Geel Hospital.

Last year, KVC Westerlo Football Club committed to making a significant financial contribution to Planet Goudgeel, the new children's hospital in Geel. The club raises money through various campaigns. But Ziekenhuis Geel and KVC Westerlo wanted to do more, namely to communicate the Planet Goudgeel story to supporters, fans and business partners of the football club.

So last year they tested the concept of a benefit match for the first time that was entirely dedicated to the planet Gudgill. It turned out to be a successful formula. Lisa Vandepaer, KVC Westerlo Community Manager: “The principle is simple: we invite interested business leaders, service club members and network partners from the wider region around Westerlo and Geel for a fun VIP evening. In addition to a four-course dinner, guests can enjoy the game from the best seats 'On the field. In between we did everything we could to get everyone interested in Planet Goudgeel.'

Jean Flament, CEO of Gilles Hospital: “The ultimate goal of this evening, in addition to networking, is of course also fundraising. We are now organizing this benefit match for the second year in a row. It is important to continue to surprise our guests. This worked well. Because the dinner The four-course offering has already received a star upgrade thanks to the collaboration between KVC Westerlo and Gourmet Invest with Chef Tijs Vervloet from Colette**. Organizing an online auction was a way for us to add something extra.”

The exclusive auction offered three things. West Flemish artist Denis de Gloire donated one of his works of art using the drip technique. Thanks to the Jan Vertonghen Foundation, it was possible to bid on a signed Jan Vertonghen football shirt, and KVC Westerlo provided a unique cinema evening for fifteen people at their new base camp.

Flament: “We deliberately chose an online auction to give others the opportunity to win items. The staff and doctors of Gale Hospital were the first to receive the auction link. It is with great pleasure to see that the winning bid for all three items was eventually placed by someone from the hospital.” Our own.

The artwork will be placed at the Diestseweg campus of the Department of Orthopedics at Geel Hospital. The football shirt now belongs to Dr. Aneline Browns and Rob Jeskins, our security officer, will soon be able to go to the cinema at KVC Westerlo with fifteen friends. It's clear that our staff and doctors have a heart for Planet Gudgill.

All 129 guests of the VIP event, business partners and supporters of KVC Westerlo showed their good hearts. Because a total of 23,879 euros were collected. This entire amount will be used to further decorate and furnish Planet Gudgill. The new generation children's hospital is scheduled to receive the first patients in the department at the end of this year.

There was also less pleasant news from VC Westerlo. He added: “The club has terminated its contract with coach Rick De Mel with immediate effect.” Although the club was considering a long-term partnership, we felt it was necessary to make this decision. “The club regrets having to take this action but cannot accept that its values and standards are being questioned,” the press release read. “KVC Westerlo completely distances itself from the way the match against Racing Genk went during the last five minutes. Facts on which the club had absolutely no influence. (M/Jeel Hospital Photos)
