Landmarks displays hundreds of 3D buildings from Apple Maps

Since the turnaround of Apple Maps in 2021, you’ll find hundreds of buildings and monuments with additional detail. Apple has drawn and painted such buildings as Buckingham Palace and the famous hotels in Las Vegas in 3D. In addition, there are also all kinds of buildings that only appear in more detail in shades of gray. The new free Landmarks app brings together the most famous buildings around the world. Unfortunately, buildings from Holland are not included, but you will find over three hundred other detailed buildings. And the great thing is that the app is available on all of your Apple devices, including Mac and Apple TV.

The Landmarks app displays the most popular 3D buildings from Apple Maps

Landmarks is a relatively simple app. The app uses all the data from Apple Maps and only highlights highlighted 3D buildings via a simple menu. From a bird’s eye view, you can fly past the famous resorts in Las Vegas, the Apple Store Fifth Avenue in New York and the Brandenburger Tor in Berlin. When viewing all buildings, you also have all kinds of options, such as switching between day and night appearance. It goes well with the night theme, as the buildings are lit up beautifully. You can mark each building as a favourite, so that they are grouped together in a separate overview.

So basically the app provides a simple way to view all these 3D buildings together, without having to search for them manually. Sites are sorted by country and city, after which they automatically skip available sites. Since December 2022, many iconic buildings in the Netherlands and Belgium are also shown in additional detail, but as mentioned earlier, we don’t see them in this app. However, you can make suggestions in the app for new buildings that appear in more detail in Apple Maps. You can also be redirected directly to the location in the Maps app for each building.

Also for Apple TV and Mac

This type of fun app is usually only released for iPhone and iPad, but the nice thing about Landmarks is that it’s also available on Apple TV and Mac. Buildings on the big screen look great, especially on the Apple TV. In addition, the app also allows you to simply browse the world, making a stripped-down version of Apple Maps available to the Apple TV thanks to the landmarks. You can simply view the normal 3D view of all the buildings in the Netherlands, as you can do in the normal Maps app on your iPhone and iPad.

The Landmarks app on Apple TV in the Netherlands

The Landmarks app is available for free for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV. The app contains in-app purchases for some additional features (such as iPhone gyroscope support) and for developer support. However, these are completely optional. The application does not collect any personal data.
