Libyan coast guard fires at migrant boat

Footage on social media shows a blue boat carrying migrants being shot at by the Libyan coast guard.

Relief organization SOS Mediterranee reported in a tweet on Twitter that about 40 migrants were on board, including fifteen minors and five women, one of whom is pregnant.

But the photos posted on social media by aid organization Sea Watch are shocking. From their Seabird, they photograph the small, bright blue boat being chased by a larger ship, which is trying to cut off pedestrians and also shoots the boat carrying migrants. Sea Watch says it is a Libyan Coast Guard boat.

Those on board eventually escaped unharmed and were picked up by the crew of the humanitarian ship Ocean Viking during two rescue missions in Maltese waters.

According to an article on the news site Libya Observer The Libyan Coast Guard condemns this act and wants to take legal action against the patrol. Josep Borrell, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, was quoted by the news agency as saying that the European Union is aware of the video and will investigate the incident. Belgian.

Aid organizations such as Sea Watch and SOS Mediterranee denounce the practices, noting that this is a more common practice. They ask Europe to change its position on Libya.
