Locking files in Google Drive becomes much easier. The locked file can only be read, but it cannot be modified without the appropriate permissions.
The company announced that Google is making it simple to lock and share files with others inside and outside your organization in blog. From now on you can simply lock the document from the file information. So no more juggling asking for and granting permissions.

It works as follows. Right-click on the file and drag the pointer to it file data. Here will now be the option a lock to appear. People you share the document with can read it, but not edit it. Only those with editing rights can lock the file and reopen it for editing.
Google is rolling out this feature to all Workspace users. By September 20, everyone should be able to use it; Administrators do not need to manually enable the feature. Google will also offer its Workspace subscribers a whole host of new AI functions in the coming months under the name Duet AI, which should fulfill the same role within the Google ecosystem as Microsoft’s Copilot.
