58.7 percent of American adults have already received their first coronavirus vaccine, but the rate of infection has slowed somewhat in recent weeks. Many Americans fear vaccine conspiracy theories on social media.
So, the government is boosting the drive to get vaccinations with all kinds of gifts for people who sign up for the vaccination: beer cans, donuts, sports tickets, here and there even cash or – in New York State – joints.
But the most controversial advice comes from Ohio. In the following weeks, a lottery will be organized there among adults who have been vaccinated against Covid-19. One lucky person will win a million dollars at a time for five weeks. Republican Governor Mike DeWine said on Twitter: “They’ll say I’m crazy and a waste of money, but the real waste is any lives we’re losing because of this pandemic.”
Minors can also win a fantastic prize: a full scholarship for four years of study at the university. (sdf)
