Martin Lemmink, VWS’s new Director of Healthy Living and Prevention

Lemmink holds a master’s degree in human movement sciences and a master’s degree in social and cultural sciences from VU Amsterdam. Follow various leadership programmes, including the Strategic Development Program and The Hague Municipal Administrative Development Program. Lemmink has been working at the GGD in various roles since 2009. He is currently the Director of the Health Promotion Department at the GGD Haaglanden. Prior to that, he was Director and Kinesiologist at Medisch Centrum Alkmaar.

On June 1, 2023 Lemmink begins As Director of Healthy Living and Prevention in the Division of Public Health at VWS. In this position, he works on policy issues related to promoting physical and mental health, reducing health disparities, offering children a promising start, health in the physical living environment, and health care for young people.

The issues are large and complex and require links with other areas of politics and the outside world. Lemmink replies, “From my experience with GGD, I also know how wild the practice can be when it comes to health promotion.” “Societal challenges in healthy living and prevention require close collaboration nationally, in the region, locally and between domains,” says Florian van der Wendt, Director of Public Health.
