MG Real Estate crossed the French border to build MG Parc Calais

The project developer has been building in Benelux and Norway for many years. France was a blind spot during those years, but 22 years later that is about to change.

“With a first project in France, we are taking a good step towards strengthening our international growth ambitions. This project is by no means the end point for our ambitions with MG Real Estate and our southern neighbours. We are already noticing great enthusiasm among companies to enter our buildings. In the long term, MG Real estate in France should continue to develop from north to south.”, concludes. Ignace de Paepe.

Neighbor Amazon

MG Real Estate is now making this southward move to build a new 96,000 m² logistics multimodal center near the Port of Calais. The total area is 210,000 m². With direct links to the United Kingdom, the port of Calais a stone’s throw away and links to major motorways in northern France, MG Park Calais is becoming a logistics hotspot for the region. In total, up to 16 companies can go, each with a minimum purchase space of 6000 m².

“MG Park Calais makes it possible for companies to connect with the rest of the world in the blink of an eye. This is also evidenced by the presence of other logistics giants such as Amazon, TFDS and XPO in the region. Connection to VIIA connect line is extra. This rail link makes it possible to transport our containers between the mainland and the UK. But also for Italy, Switzerland or the Iberian Peninsula,” insists De Pape.

A durable pearl

The building in Calais will be BREEAM certified, a high quality mark for sustainable buildings with a minimal environmental footprint. In the building, the project developer wants to make maximum use of renewable energy with the help of solar panels and heat pumps. New plantings should ensure greenness and maximum efforts should be made in water buffering.

Natacha BouchertThe head of Grand Calais Terres & Mers and Calais Promotion is already delighted with the arrival of MG Park Calais.

“I am delighted that this new location will be part of the Transmark-Turquerie logistics centre, which now has only a few spaces on a 220 hectare site. It is a sign that logistics professionals have recognized the strategic importance of this area. Having recognized their business between the United Kingdom and continental Europe, everything is there to meet their needs. : Excellent motorway access, first-class rail and maritime infrastructure and a complete ecosystem reinforce Calais’ role as a major European logistics hub. This project is the culmination of our work and efforts with all local players to attract businesses and investors to the region.

With the first spade, the long-awaited works have been given the go-ahead. In 2024, the entrance gates of ‘MG Park Calais’ should open and the first companies will move in.
