In his previous life, he was still Shht’s major, but James De Graef has been working full time as Loverman for some time now. So it’s impressive to see what he’s been able to achieve in that relatively short period of time. With only three or four singles under his arm, for example, he was already allowed to join Tamino on a European tour and secured a record deal with PIAS. So it looks like a debut album is in the offing, and with previously released songs like “Differences Aside” and “Into The Night” already looking promising. Now that the new “Candyman” has joined that streak, we can say for sure that Loverman has four hit singles.

With less than five minutes on the clock, Candyman doesn’t immediately seem like a slasher-sized piece, though time flies by without us realizing it. That’s because the song glides dreamily into our ear canals, making the whole thing sound like a soft cloud. Musically, the single is very soothing, with acoustic guitar plucks and a bed of strings as main components. De Graef shows his lighter side in this matter and is thus the icing on the cake. Now that the temperatures are over the top and everyone’s energy level is dropping at low tide, this “Candyman” has come for a summer afternoon.
