The talk was on the topic of “Healthy Eating, Healthy Aging”. On this subject, the alternate speaker, d. Eric de Merteler, the audience at hand immediately. De Maerteleire pointed out in a fun but clear way that we are responsible for our health for about 75%. Only 25% is determined by our genes. Eating healthy doesn’t mean we have to follow a strict diet. On the contrary, because scientific research has sufficiently proven that different diets only lead to the yo-yo effect.Healthy eating means paying attention to our daily eating habits. We have to make sure we drink enough in the first place because most elderly people drink very little. Water, coffee, (green) tea or broth are ideal drinks. How much should we drink per day? A little help: Divide your weight by 50, and the result is the minimum you should drink per day. It is also essential to eat enough fruits and vegetables. 300 grams of vegetables and 250 grams of fruit per day is the goal.Due to the fact that those present commented on the lips of the speaker, the latter forgot about the time and answered all kinds of questions from the audience. The afternoon was useful to all present. Neos’ next activity is a visit to Ter Dolen brewery on Thursday 16th December.
