Mads Mikkelsen has officially acquired Johnny Depp’s wand as the evil wizard Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3. Warner Bros. Confirmed on Wednesday.
Earlier this month, several media outlets reported that Mads Mikkelsen was number one on their list of potential alternatives to Johnny Depp, who announced his retirement from his role as Grindelwald in early November after Warner Bros. He asked him to do so.
Depp’s departure came after a British judge ruled in the actor’s defamation case against The Sun for an article depicting him as “a woman’s racket.” According to the judge, this decision was justified and there is sufficient evidence that Depp repeatedly assaulted his ex-wife, Amber Heard.
