Many TikTokkers recommend rinsing your mouth with coconut oil for 15 to 20 minutes in viral videos. It will not only ensure healthy teeth but will also fight bad breath and get rid of harmful bacteria in the mouth. Is this correct?

“Oil pulling” is nothing new. This practice has been around for centuries in Eastern cultures and is said to have originated in India. Although there is evidence that DIY mouthwash reduces the number of harmful bacteria in the mouth, there is not yet enough scientific research to prove this. Based on the information we now have, we can say that rinsing with coconut oil is permissible, but it does not necessarily have better effects than regular rinsing. It is certainly not a substitute for brushing or flossing your teeth.
