PinkPantheress’ new single – “Angel”

The PinkPantheress story is somewhat like a fairy tale. A teenage girl who goes from making music in her bedroom to one of the UK’s biggest rising stars, delivers a powerful mixtape for the first time with “boys bouncing pt. 2“It met with great success. Unfortunately, the great villain in that fairy tale is also the singer herself, because at last year’s Pukkelpop – a show she seems to have forgotten herself – she was still notable for her unprofessionalism. She recently excelled at the CORE festival in autotune and lipsyncing and applying the lipstick for which she vanished from the stage for fifteen minutes in the middle of her set.Anyway, the numbers don’t lie, so it wasn’t a bad idea from the creators to also include PinkPantheress, along with Dua Lipa, in the new soundtrack Barbiemovie set.

However, on the nearly two-minute “Angel” we hear PinkPantheress from a slightly different side than we’re used to. For example, poppy influences often seep into her bedroom UK R&B, so that finally pays homage to Barbie’s bright pink. However, this song can hardly be called truly special, because “Angel” is nothing more than a classic build from PinkPantheress that runs along. We never feel like we’re hearing something that really convinces us, so the song quickly fades into background noise. All in all a great one, this “Angel”, but nothing more.
