Qualcomm introduces a new chip for wearable devices

Qualcomm Snapdragon is hinting at a new chip for wearable devices. It’s likely meant for Wear OS smartwatches, because now that Google and Samsung have worked together on this, the OS for smartwatches seems to be a bit more robust in place.

Qualcomm puts it very boldly in a tweet in which she largely wrote (loosely translated): “Time is running out for something great.” She wants to signal that it’s time to unveil a new wearable chip, or that time is running out to reveal something big. Or well, the big one might be an odd choice of words, because the chip for wearables is likely to be getting smaller and smaller and smaller. A video was placed with the tweet where a video could be viewed with some kind of abstract foil, followed by the words: “Wear what matters” and “Coming soon.”

The exact date of the announcement is still unknown, but there is a good chance that it will be a small segment for Wear OS systems. Who knows, this is about Snapdragon Wear 5100, which we actually wrote back in February that it had been leaked. Currently, users of Wear OS devices are preparing for a regular update of the operating system, but work is also underway on the next generation of Wear OS tools.

The question is which rumors about the Wear 5100 are true and which are not. For example, a CPU won’t necessarily be much better than the current Snapdragon Wear 4100. However, the 4nm process will be more efficient, thanks in part to the 4GB of RAM the new chip will have. Moreover, there are very few rumors about the new chip. Could this be in a new smartwatch from Fossil? Maybe, but first, let’s see what Qualcomm has improved on its wearable chips.
