Robert J. Faucher nominated as new US Ambassador to Suriname – Dagblad Suriname

President Joe Biden has appointed a new ambassador to Suriname. Robert J. Foucher, a senior diplomat in the Foreign Service with the rank of Secretary of State and Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Office of Conflict and Stabilization Operations (CSO) since 2019. If confirmed by the Senate, Foucher will replace Karen L. Williams, who was nominated by Donald Trump in July 2018.

Previously, Foucher was Director of the Bureau of Western European Affairs in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, and also held management positions in the United Nations Political Affairs offices and United Nations specialized and technical agencies in the Office of International Regulatory Affairs.

Foucher joined the diplomatic corps in 1985 and served as deputy chief of mission at the US embassies in Belgium, Ireland, Suriname and Luxembourg.

His other overseas positions include the Netherlands and the US Mission to the European Union and the United Kingdom. His previous service in Washington included Deputy Director of the Bureau of European Union Affairs and the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. Special Assistant in the Office of Intelligence and Research; He is a lawyer with the Legal Counsel for the Middle East and South Asia in the Legal Consultancy Office.

The German immigrant grew up in Arizona, and studied at Arizona State University and the University of Edinburgh, among others. He also speaks Dutch and French.
