Wearing a mask outdoors is again mandatory in several parts of France, including the West Coast. The impetus for the tightening of measures again was the advance of the delta variant of the coronavirus.
The Gironde administration – in southwest France – reintroduced mask requirements in Bordeaux and in tourist areas. Since the administrations of Vendée, Charente-Maritime, Landes and Pyrénées-Atlantiques have recently announced similar measures, the mask requirement now applies in most French western coastal resorts between Sables-d’Olonne and the Spanish border. There are also popular tourist destinations such as Ile de Ré, Ile d’Oléron and Biarritz.
In Gironde, the measure will also be combined with a ban on the use of alcohol on public roads until August 31. There is an exception for stands.
Corsica
Stricter rules are also being introduced in northern Corsica to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Wearing a mouth mask is now mandatory on the crowded streets of various cities, including Bastia. To prevent night parties, it is also forbidden to gather more than ten people on beaches and nature reserves after 9 pm.
The department of Pyrénées-Orientales – in southern France – was the first to reintroduce mouth mask requirements in mid-July. In the neighboring province of Aude, the procedure is also applied in crowded places, such as the center of Carcassonne.
The province of Herault, including the city of Montpellier, also announced on Monday the reinstatement of the mask requirement. Similar measures have been introduced in the Alpes Maritimes, Murthy and Moselle departments.
