Supreme Leader Kim warns the people of North Korea against…

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has warned his people of a possible food shortage. The official central news agency KCNA reported this on Wednesday.

At the start of a multi-day meeting of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, Kim warned of the “people’s food situation” which was “now becoming tense.” According to him, one of the reasons for this was the failure of the grain harvest as a result of the hurricane.

The North Korean leader called on members of the Central Committee to solve the problem. A good harvest is the “military task that our party and the country must perform with the highest priority,” Kim said. He added that this is the only way to provide a stable life for people and ensure the socialist construction of the country.

North Korea has relied on food aid from abroad for years, not only because of natural disasters, but also through its own mismanagement. The South Korean government estimates that the neighboring country will face a shortage of 1.2-1.3 million tons of food this year to partially feed the population.

In the past year, not only the effects of floods and damage from storms, but also the outbreak of the coronavirus have had dire consequences for a completely isolated dictatorship. Pyongyang closed its borders early due to the epidemic, which had a major impact on foreign trade.
