Sweden bans entry to travelers from Israel, one of the most vaccinated countries in the world

Door Tyler Durden.

Sweden has reintroduced travel restrictions for travelers from the United States and five other countries, but will consider more lenient rules for vaccines.

The Swedish government today officially extended the entry ban to Sweden for citizens of non-EU/EEA countries until October 31. the local last week.

There are many exceptions to the ban, including people traveling for specific reasons, as well as from some countries, but on Thursday, six countries were removed from the “safe countries” list: due to an increase in COVID-19 infections in these countries, as of September 6, The entry ban also applies to the following countries: Kosovo, Lebanon, Montenegro, North Macedonia, the United States and Israel.

The case of Israel is particularly noteworthy because while this country has long been one of the most vaccinated countries in the world and has the highest percentage of the population that has received a third booster vaccine (25%), it is also the country with a third booster vaccine. The latest vaccine. The wave of Covid-19 infections has reached unprecedented levels.

This does not necessarily mean that all travel from these countries will be banned, as travelers may fall into a different exemption category, for example if they are traveling for urgent family reasons or if they hold European citizenship or a Swedish residence permit. The decision to reimpose restrictions on these six countries is a result of the EU’s recommendation.

Currently, Sweden does not distinguish between vaccinated and non-vaccinated travelers when it comes to travel outside the European Union, but the government has hinted that new exemptions could be considered for vaccinated travelers “who reside in certain third parties”.

« There are a number of countries with which Sweden has a close relationship. There, the government will now study the possibility of full exemption from the vaccinated population in some third countries Interior Minister Michael Damberg told the news agency TT Thursday.

Neither he nor the government statement released Thursday gave any indication of when such waivers would be introduced.
