Ten thousand volunteers withdraw from the Olympics | the Olympics

Of the 80,000 volunteers expected to be active in the Tokyo Olympics and the Paralympics next summer, 10,000 have withdrawn. This was announced by Japanese television station NHK. The broadcaster builds this on the statements of the LOC members.

The departure may be related to concerns about the spread of the coronavirus. Several opinion polls have shown that the majority of the population is currently dissatisfied with the event taking place in the country. Some prominent doctors also expressed their opinions in this direction.

Both the Japanese government and the International Olympic Committee have stated several times that the Olympics will not take place. The event was postponed for a year in 2020 due to the pandemic.
