The death toll from an accident with an American smuggling ship has risen to four

Four people were killed in a boat accident in Southern California, USA. One person is still at risk. The San Diego Fire Department announced Sunday. It is likely that those on the ship were immigrants smuggled into the United States illegally.

The crowded boat crashed off the coast of San Diego. The 12-meter ship was completely destroyed. Eyewitness video footage showed crew members jumping into the water in an attempt to save their lives. The fire brigade says four people did not survive the accident. And 24 wounded were taken to nearby hospitals, one of them at risk of death.

“It was a smuggling boat,” said Jeffrey Stephenson of the US Customs Service. Customs is questioning a man we believe was responsible. Smugglers do not care about the people who exploit them, all they care about is profit. They did not have adequate security equipment and this ship was clearly very crowded.

Dive teams are still searching for potential victims in the vicinity of the accident.

San Diego is located in Southern California, on the border with Mexico. For several months now, the United States has faced a sharp increase in the number of illegal border crossings with Mexico.
