“The Power of the Dog” won the BAFTA Award for Best Picture

“The Power of the Dog” won Best Film at the BAFTA Awards, the UK’s most important film awards, on Sunday. The film’s director, Jane Campion, also received the Best Director award. American Will Smith won Best Actor for his role in King Richard, and Britain’s Joanna Scanlan won Best Actress for her role in After Love.


In the Best Picture category, “The Power of the Dog” competed against “Belfast”, “Don’t Look Up”, “Dune” and “Licorice Pizza”. Belfast won Best British Film.

The Best Actor award went to Will Smith. He played in the movie “King Richard” the father of tennis players Venus and Serena Williams. He competed against Adele Akhtar (“Ali and Ava”), Mahershala Ali (“Swan Song”), Benedict Cumberbatch (“The Power of a Dog”), Leonardo DiCaprio (“Don’t Look”) and Stephen Graham (“Boiling Point”).

Britain’s Joanna Scanlan won Best Actress for her role in ‘After Love’. She won it from Lady Gaga (“House of Gucci”), Alana Haim (“licorice pizza”), Emilia Jones (“Coda”), Renate Renzvi (“The Worst Person in the World”) and Tessa Thompson (“Transient”).
