The third candidate for the presidency of the US House of Representatives surrenders

Earlier today, American Republicans put forward a new candidate for the presidency of the House of Representatives. After a series of votes behind closed doors, the nomination went to Tom Emmer, a relative unknown from Minnesota.

Emmer, 62, wanted to try to garner enough support during the general House vote. Therefore the latter was not successful. The actor immediately received a lot of opposition from supporters of former President Donald Trump and so he decided to give up and not wait for the vote in the House of Representatives.

It is true that Republicans have a majority in the House, but the group is hopelessly divided. The Speaker of the House position has been vacant since October 3, when Kevin McCarthy was voted in as Speaker of the House.

Republicans had previously nominated Steve Scalise and Jim Jordan as potential successors to McCarthy. But Scalise quickly withdrew because he thought he did not have enough support, while Jordan gave up again when he was not elected after three rounds of voting.
