The UN Security Council rejects the US decision to cease fire in Gaza and a new vote tomorrow

In an initial response, US Representative Linda Thomas-Greenfield said that Russia “once again puts political games above progress.”

In turn, British Barbara Woodward indicated that she voted in favor of the decision to “release the hostages” and “thwart any ground attack in Rafah.” She also said she was “very disappointed” by the vetoes used by Russia and China.

France is also dissatisfied with the actions of Russia and China. That is why the country will work to issue a new UN Security Council resolution, says French President Emmanuel Macron.

He added, “After the veto used by Russia and China a few minutes ago, we will resume work on the basis of the French draft resolution in the Security Council and we will work with our American, European and Arab partners to reach an agreement.” France had previously indicated that it was preparing such a text, in the event that the American decision failed.

The Security Council is scheduled to vote tomorrow on a new resolution. It calls for a ceasefire throughout the month of Ramadan, the release of all hostages and the provision of more humanitarian aid. The resolution was presented by Algeria, Malta, Mozambique, Guyana, Slovenia, Sierra Leone and Switzerland.
