Microsoft first announced last June that it was working on an Xbox game streaming stick and a streaming app for smart TVs. While the company has not released any details about the development progress yet, a new report indicates that both the streaming stick and the app will be available to gamers sometime in 2023.
A cloud game streaming device, plugged into a TV or monitor, will look like an Amazon Fire Stick or maybe a small Roku-esque disc. The device will give the user access to movies and TV shows, as well as cloud games through the company’s Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription service.
Meanwhile, the companion game streaming app will be a joint effort of Microsoft and its partner Samsung. Those who have Samsung Smart TVs can use the app without having to purchase the associated device.
Both the streaming device and the app are expected to arrive within 12 months.
More details may be revealed on June 12, when Xbox partners with Bethesda for a live game show.
