Subject: Space Telescopes

With space telescopes, we no longer have to worry about clouds and other pesky objects in our atmosphere, but the universe also reveals itself in wavelengths different from what we can receive on Earth. Like real-life “ghost hunters,” they search for the unseen, helping us unravel this mysterious universe, helping us look at the first stars and galaxies. And now they’re also hunting down the new “ghosts” in astronomy: dark matter and dark energy.

Eye-catching: Full-size models of the mirrors of the James Webb Space Telescope and the Hubble Space Telescope.

The exhibition, titled “Space Telescopes,” tells the story of James Webb and other space telescopes using clear information panels, models and film clips. In the permanent exhibition, a rotating collection of “rocks from space” catches the eye, including a large lunar meteorite.

There are also lectures on Friday and Saturday evenings and Saturday and Sunday afternoons, a viewing evening (in clear weather) on Friday and Saturday evenings, planetarium shows and 360 degree film screenings in our planetarium and guided tours of the observatory.
